Maybe you might not have noticed the change on the dance floor yet, but Ecstatic dancing is making a comeback.
In the early days of House and Techno music, people were expressing themselves more freely on the dancefloor. That’s what Ecstatic dancing is all about. No choreography, no rehearsed dance steps, no judgement, … just pure raw energy in motion, locked into the groove, in sync with the rhythm of the pounding beats and so creating a natural high. Just like our great great ancestors dancing freely around a central fire on the hypnotizing rhythms of the tribal drums.
When dancing Ecstatically there is no wright or wrong way of dancing… You move, shake, jump and crawl freely or stand still just as you feel it in the moment. Unfortunately the growing popularity of electronic dance music, the rise of the superstar dj culture and the omni presence of digital cameras and social media created a shift from actively participating dancers to more passive spectators.
Luckily today more and more people yearn to be able to express themselves again freely on the dancefloor. Hence many clubs and parties are implementing a no phone/no camera policy and are again dimming the spotlights on the dj booth, therefore bringing back the focus on the music and on the dancefloor, for which the music was designed in the first place…
“And those who were seen Dancing, were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the Music.” – Friedrich Nietzsche –
